CANJST4 – Link CAN Connection Cable for PlugIn ECUs

Important points:

1. Newly designed PlugIn ECU’s will have a 4 pin CAN socket on the PCB. Dealers will need to be aware of this when ordering a CAN connection cable. “CANJST4” is required for new 4 pin ECU’s, “CANPCB” is required for old 5 pin ECU’s.
2. There will be a range of additional CAN interconnection cables released in future to make connection of CAN accessories to all of our ECU’s models easier – these are still several months away, more information and an announcement will be made when they are available.
3. All Link CAN accessories (such as CAN Lambda and any future devices) will use the standardised DTM4 pinout shown above. However, be aware some 3rd party devices share the same connector but have a different pinout. At the time of writing AEM use the same pinout as Link, Motec and Haltech are different. Usually pins can be swapped in the 3rd party device connector to match if required.

As CAN bus accessories become more common place in the aftermarket ECU industry we are making some changes to the CAN connectors on our PlugIn ECU’s to make the connection easier for the end user.

Going forward, any new PlugIn ECU’s will have a 4 pin JST socket on the PCB instead of the old 5 pin connector. This new socket provides not only connection to the CAN bus but also includes a 12V, 3A power supply for powering connected CAN accessory(s).

This has been tested to be sufficient current for powering a Link CAN Lambda, a Link/AiM dash and most other 3rd party devices such as EGT amplifiers.

The 12V supply is protected with an onboard self-resettable fuse.

These new ECU’s will require a new cable to access the CAN bus, #CANJST4 (SKU 101-0198), this cable adapts from the JST 4 connector on the PCB end and connects to the outside world using a 4 pin DTM plug (socket terminals).

In future Link will release a range of interconnection CAN cables such as extension leads and “Tee pieces” which connect via this DTM4 connector. For many common installations this will allow a more plug-and-play type outcome as the user/installer won’t need to make cables and find a power supply etc.

The first PlugIn which has this new CAN connector is the recently released Honda S2000 AP1 PlugIn ECU (SKU 233-4000).
