TDP Victorious at Round 2 of the Time Attacks in Mondello.

Sunday, the 19th of April, saw the 2009 debut of TDP’s Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R. The GTR has been ‘hibernating’ during the off-season, following a large number of events during 2008. The GTR was not present at the first round of the Time Attacks, but it’s presence was most certainly felt by all in attendance at this event in Mondello Park. The GTR was the centre of attention from both spectators, and also from fellow competitors. A lot has changed on the GTR since it was last at a big event in November of 2008. Most notably, the addition of the side-exit exhaust, which travels along the inside the car and exits through the passenger side quarter panel. The GTR was driven by Robbie. He used the practice sessions familiarise himself with the car again and to find any glitches. This worked well, he managed to set lap-times of 1:00.178 and 1:01.194 in the qualifying sessions. In the final, Robbie set the best lap-time: 59.473 at a speed of 109.260mph. In doing so, he also took victory. None of the other competitors could beat this lap-time.

Sunday also saw the return of Brendan Stone driving the TDP Evo VI. Brendan’s driving was, as always, excellent. But unfortunately, due to some confusion relating to our choice of tyres, we were unable to use the tyres we hoped to. The rules state that the tyres must be road legal, and available for purchase off the shelf, which they are. It also states that cut slicks are not allowed and “tyres for racing use only” are not allowed. The fact that they were road legal and clearly ‘E’ marked, made us think they were okay. But, as with all rules, they are interpreted in different ways by different people, and of course, we respect Mondello’s decisions. Luckily, we had spare wheels and tyres with us for the Skyline. We were able to fit these to the Evo, just in time for qualifying, which saw Brendan set the fastest ‘Qualifying 1’ lap, with a time of 1:00.095. Brendan then lost a bit of time in the finals. He got a time of 1:00.350 and finished in third place. A great result, especially considering the poor start we had to the day.

Brian Sexton finished in second place in his Jomo Engineering Evo mapped by TDP. Congratulations.

We’d also like to extend our congratulations to all who took part. Well done.
