The Carlow Rallysprint held in Mondello on the 27th of December always gets a good entry. Yesterday was still a great entry for the times we are in, with 100 cars starting.

David James had decided not to take out his MK2 and to hire our our EVO once again. Having the victory from the MEC event on the 22nd of November, fresh minded he was reluctant to get back into the slower Escort.

When we arrived in Mondello, we were happy to see that there was no real sign of ice, except for a few spots in the paddock.

David took the Evo for the familiarisation run. He reported a very cold and damp track that was yielding very little grip. We set the car up for the lack of grip by reducing the power a lot to make it easier to drive, as a spin or minor off would cost him the win we came for.

From the first run on, he set the pace for the day and ended with a total time of 10:15.77 a full 18 seconds faster than the next car.

Well done David.

We could also like to congratulate Ian O’Connel on his class win in the TDP mapped 16V Mini.

David James from Gorey, Wexford. He is well known for his rallying prowess in a Ford MKII Escort and in later years a Ford Focus WRC.

David chose to use the TDP EVO VI for the MEC Rallysprint in Mondello. He could have used his Focus WRC but the EVO was a better bet as it was well setup for Mondello. He was keen to keep the perpetual trophy which he won last year in the Focus WRC. Having only driven the EVO on 2 previous occasions he was still learning limits of the cars grip and handling. From the first run he started to pull a good lead on Liam Ryan in a EVO 9. After just 2 runs he was a comfortable 10 seconds ahead. He continued to drive well even though he stalled on the start on run 4 he still managed to win by 10 seconds.

David retained his Trophy and Team TDP were happy with another win for the EVO VI.

On the Day Team TDP were also testing the NEE MoTeC VCS. The new Video Capture system is a very good way to relive in car video for any mototsport discipline.
The on screen telemetry recorded in real time with the live footage adds a new level of information for the viewer and teams alike.

Here are the videos form the 5 Runs that won David and TDP the MEC Rallysprint 2009.

Today, with the weather threatening to rain all day, the TDP team proved once again, that superior car preparation yields wining results time after time.

In the practice session, the timing system was not 100% working and may not have recorded all the times, but it showed the TDP R32 GTR to be the quickest car of the session. Track conditions were not good for either of the Qualifying sessions. In the first session, a pro-car blew it’s engine, and continued to drop oil and coolant over half of the track. This caused one serious off for a club class competitor, and luckily for him, no damage was done. All the TDP cars decided that the conditions were too treacherous and retired to the pit lane to sit out the session.

In the second session, a car dropped coolant over half the track, and while not as bad as in the first session, it still made for interesting driving. This did not stop Brendan Stone in the TDP EVO VI from setting a storming time of 1:00.5. The TDP GTR was stuck in the pits for this session with a power steering belt shortage.

In the club class, Dean Reilly was having fun and continually setting the fastest time.

The final was a worry for the TDP crew, as they were worried about the track conditions. This turned out not to be a problem, and the TDP GTR stopped the clocks at 59.727. Followed by Brendan Stone, with a time of 59.736, only 0.009 slower than Robbie’s time.
The suspension set-up Robbie had done on the EVO was helping, as the TDP cars were the only cars in the 59 second bracket.

The TDP team all use the Kumho V70a tyres.

Yesterday up against stiff competition form true race cars the www.TDP.ie Team Reigned supreme.

From the very first session it was clear that TDP EVO was going to the hard to beat. A confident Brendan Stone was straight into the 59 seconds bracket in the practice session. Robbie was going Ok in the GTR also with a good 60.3 when he saw an opportunity for a very quick lap he took it. Unfortunately the dive shaft could not handle the toque of the GTR driven in proper anger and gave up. As it was only a fun day out a spare was not packed. Brian Sexton was also flying in his JOMO Engineering car Mapped by TDP in practice he pipped Robbie by just 0.1 of a second.

In the Qualifying session Brendan was confused by a temp warning that was later found to be a temp sensor fault. This still did not stop him in doing a 59.4 seconds lap. He was just pipped by the lotus of Pat McBennet on his 18th lap with a time of 59.3 seconds.
Dean Reilly in his Club Class Ek Civic powered by the TDP K20A engine set a new Lap Record 1:02.8 seconds. Well done Dean.
Chris McConnon with his new MoTeC M4 and Brembo Brakes supplied and setup buy TDP took a full 1 second off his previous lap time. You have joined the winning team.

In the final Brian Sexton did a 60.052 second lap and set the pace. Brendan was up next and stopped the clock with a blistering 59.311 second run. Last was the Lotus of McBennet on his flying lap he manged a very respectable time of 59.972 seconds.

For the 3rd consecutive time Brendan Stone took the TDP EVO VI to the Top of the Podium. May his success continue.

On Sunday the 12th July 2009, the TDP team returned to the Mondello National circuit.

The track was dry when we arrived but the clouds were looming.  In the practice session, Robbie, in the TDP R32 GTR, went out to test the suspension set-up as it had been altered for some drag racing. He managed to set the fastest time for that session of 1:00.313. Early in the day, Brendan, in the TDP EVO VI, had an issue with a dash warning and decided to go into the pit and check the problem. After looking at the data-logging, it was found to be an engine stall under braking and he was given the green light to go in the next qualifying session. The suspension was adjusted on the TDP R32 GTR after a quick look at the tyres.

Next, was Qualifying session 1.  Robbie went out first, and on lap 2, put in a 1:01.092. On the next lap, he got an alternator warning, followed by a coolant temperature warning. He pitted immediately and found that the warnings were from the alternator & water pump belt leaving the engine bay.  A TDP staff member was straight off to get a new belt. Brendan managed a 1:01.184 before going off into the gravel trap at the S bends.

The beginning of Qualifying 2 was a disaster for Team TDP, as the EVO was still being de-graveled and the GTR was sitting waiting on a fan belt. The fan belt arrived, and Robbie got it fitted and was straight out on track. The conditions were very greasy and the GTR’s active 4 wd system came into is own. Robbie set a blistering time on the damp greasy track. He managed a 1:00.106, a full 2.2 seconds ahead of everyone else! This was the fastest time of the day.

With 15 mins to the final, the heavens opened, and the rain was torrential. Not wanting to miss an opportunity, both Robbie and Brendan headed out on track. The GTR’s wide tyres were floating on the water, and could not mange any better than a 1:12.023 lap. Brendan stayed out as it was drying slowly. On lap 8, near the end of the session, Brendan managed a 1:08.941 lap.  Good enough for the win by 0.6 seconds.

Well done Brendan (Animal) Stone.

In club class, Dean Riley, in the EK Civic with a TDP K20A Engine and MoTeC ECU mapped on our Dynapack was flying.  He was having some problems, with suspected water in the fuel, and his car had suffered from slight misfiring all day. Before the final, Robbie got Dean to drain the fuel and fill the car up with fuel we had brought with us. Robbie cleaned the plugs and checked the logging.  He did not find a real problem but was sure with the fresh fuel it would be ok.  It was, and Dean stormed to winning his class, and achieving a 4th place overall.

Well done to all involved in team TDP, and the efforts put in behind the scenes.

Also well done to Brian Sexton in the JOMO Engineering EVO mapped by TDP on another Podium finish.

Brendan at the wheel of the TDP EVO VI

Both the TDP EVO and GTR use the Kumho V70a tyres. They are simply the best all round solution for this class.

Here is a Video of one of our good customers setting a very quick time on the Malin Head special stage on Fridays second Loop.

Seamus O’Connell and Sean Magee completed this stage in 7:55.5 second.

The car is a amazing Ford MKII prepared by Gerard O’Kane and Fabrication by SKN Rally sport.

The car has a Ford Duratec 2.4L engine with 320+ bhp and 240+ lbs of torque.  I has a 6 Speed Tractive Gaerbox with our very own paddle shift system.

The Engine and Gear box are controlled by a MoTeC M400 ECU.  The SDL dash logger displays the vital information to the driver and can be down loaded later to analyze the cars performance.  The GPS system allows the cars position to be logged also alowing for analisis of the conering acceleration and braking.

On Sunday, we took the TDP EVO VI to the first Round of the Time Attack. It was driven by Brendan Stone as his car, an EP3 Civic, was not ready after a full winter of chassis mods. The Civic, powered by a TDP K20A Race Engine, will be one to watch in the next round. The EVO VI is not set-up for Time Attack, where road legal tyres are used and the suspension favoured the slick tyres. We dusted a set of Toyo 888R tyres off the shelf from when Robbie raced in the UK some 3 years ago. Fitted them to the rims and hoped for the best. In the practice session, Brendan had the times down to the 60.4 seconds bracket and we were happy. In the Qualifying 1 we were the second quickest car with 60.3 seconds. We did a bit of tow and camber adjustment to try and make the car work, as the Toyos are very soft compared to the slicks. In Qualifying 2, we were the second quickest car at 59.81 seconds only 0.35 behind the TDP mapped Evo of Brian Sexton. The car was only running on low boost as we were still unsure of the tyres. We only had one set and they were needed in the final.

The final was a bit of disaster, as during the service interval, we changed the plugs. Unfortunately, a plug lead refused to clip back on to the plug for Brendan. It was starting to rain and we needed a dry lap. He went out but it was misfiring, so he came back in. By the time Robbie persuaded the lead to clip back on, the track was wet and the other drivers had set a time on a partially dry track. The best we could get on a fully wet track was 68 seconds lap. We finished in 6th place, a bit disheartened, but happy that the two TDP tuned cars were the only cars in the 59 seconds bracket.

Well done to Philip Burdock on the win Martin Tracey in second and Brian Sexton in third second place in the second TDP.ie Mapped EVO.

The car will go back to its saloon racing and may make an appearance later in the year in Time Attack with a guest driver.
